Nothing like a cheesy picture to get you excited for the 4th, right?! Since the holiday lands on the first Thursday of the month, we want you to have wine BEFORE that day so you don't have to run any errands on your day off!

It's a Greek July while we continue to channel Grecian summer! While we love Greek wine, our club isn't always this Greek-heavy. But we wanted to include Liatiko for July-atiko (thanks, Nikos, for that one), and a fun little comparison in there... two bottles of Vlahiko (an indigenous Greek varietal characterized by fresh red berries, green leaves, and spices) - one still and one sparkling! Of course, there's classic bubbles to pop for celebration and plenty of good BBQ and day drinking wine in there. So be sure to come by and snag it tonight or tomorrow! HIGHLIGHT 💥 Zoinos Winery 

"The creation of Zoinos Winery is a result of the development-friendly minds of local viticulturists who created the first small winery in Zitsa in 1954. With the help of the Agricultural Cooperative Union of Ioannina, the most advanced winery in NW Greece was born in 1974, [after] having already achieved ... wines made from the indigenous grape variety “Debina” [to be] lawfully be considered of Protected Designation of the Origin of Zitsa (PDO Zitsa).
 
Zoinos winery makes use of over 250 acres of organic indigenous vines and an experimental vineyard where 28 local varieties of Epirus are being tested, aiming to, their adaptation to the area, showcasing their winemaking dynamics and the creation of new wines.
 

 

Viniculture in Epirus and specifically in the region of Zitsa has a long history ... Three indigenous scarce varieties grow in the region, Debina [white] and two red varieties Vlahiko and Bekari.
Zitsas’ wine region covers today 2,100 acres of mild slopes with wild flora and multiple clusters of herbs and aromatic plants. The altitude of the region is 550-730 m. above sea level. The soil is limestone and is influenced by breezes from the Ionian sea. Climate change has positively affected the climate of the region which is characterized by mild winters and summers. The special climatic characteristics alongside the indigenous varieties allow for many differentiated wines and distills of exceptional quality and distinct character."

  • TOPLOU LIATIKO (a true Summer red! Transparent in color but medium on the palate, bright cherry, pomegranate and guava with a touch of leather. The bottle's label showcases the inscription on the Monastery's wine press from 1709 - so they've been growing Liatiko for over 300 years!)

  • CHATEAU DE MONTFAUCON LA COTE ROUGE (Cote du Rhone blend of grenache, syrah, carignan, cinsault, & counoise from just across the river from Chateauneuf du Pape. Rudy is the grandchild of the Comtesse de Montfaucon and continues to carry the legend of Lirac on by crafting wonderfully balanced, harmonious Rhone reds)
